About

Popjoys is named after Beau Nash's mistress, who lived here, along with Beau himself after he gambled away his own house. The grade I listed Georgian building has enormous charm, with it's green and cream decor and fireplaces. Popjoy's seems to attract absolutely everyone, from actors to students to tourists and business folk, who all enjoy the cosy, elegant, informal atmosphere. The menu is modern British with continental influences, and all the ingredients are extremely fresh, many of local provenance. Start with the trio of oak-smoked salmon, halibut and trout with fresh horseradish and a glass of iced Smirnoff Black Label, follwed by panfried noisette of lamb with caramelised garlic and shallots. Good pre-theatre menu, too.
