The Gay Hussar
About
The Gay Hussar has barely changed in the last half-century, from its clubby bohemian decor to the warmth of the welcome to the density and richness of its flavoured cuisine - and long-term fans hope it never will. A mainstay of Soho for decades, the menu is original, authentic and unlike any other you will find in the capital. Favourite dishes include chilled wild cherry soup and the Kolozsvari Toltott Kaposzta, or Transylvanian stuffed cabbage with saurkraut and smoked bacon and sausage. The rye bread is justly famous, as are the sweets, particularly sweet cheese pancakes when eaten with a glass of Tokaji dessert wine. The menu invites you to eat well, drink well, and live well - good advice.
