A yellow fronted, big-windowed pub conversion with solid bare-top tables, Le Montmartre is the type of unfussy, atmospheric bistro every neighbourhood ought to be blessed with. Luxury and pomp are shooed away to clear the path for delicious, regional French food at decent prices. If your mouth waters at the thought of simply cooked French classics, you’ve come to the right place. Frogs legs and snails in garlic butter; Toulouse sausages in red wine; entrecote steak in a wild mushroom sauce with chips; crepes… Heaven is another country’s national dishes. Monday to Friday lunchtimes a prix fixe menu costs just £5.50 for two courses, while mussels, chips and half a beer are £7.50. They do a fab Sunday roast with all the trimmings too.

Le Montmartre are tres happy to cater for groups, whether it be hen parties, business lunches, birthdays, Christmas dos or social get-togethers. The maximum number of people it can welcome is 90 for exclusive hire, or 50 with diners that aren’t part of your party. Groups of up to 50 can dine a la carte; up to 90 from the reduced a la carte, set, canapé or buffet menu. Turn up the heat with chilled flavoured schnapps shots from Alsace (£3), or for a more leisurely drink, choose from a tempting selection of French wines. House champagne is £25. Bring your own entertainment, if you fancy it. Open seven days a week. Children welcome.
