Il Pomodorino
About
The first British outlet of a chain that has been successful in Rome, Il Pomodorino is a well-designed hunk of a modern restaurant just off Piccadilly Circus on Lower Regent Street. Inside is even more impressive – soft tan and beige leather seating, pale polished wood chairs and surfaces, soft lighting. Very chic. If you’re not that hungry when you arrive, you will be when the scent of Italian cooking reaches your nostrils. It might be the aroma a pizza capricciosa baking, handmade pasta cooking before being transformed into tagliatelle con gamberi ed asparagi, or a Tuscan steak preparing for its star role in filetto di manzo cremolato al mais dolce. Listing 450 labels, the wine list is genuinely extensive.
Up to 200 guests can dine between Il Pomodrino’s handsome walls - 150 in the main restaurant, 30 in the bar area, and 20 in what’s known was the box area. (It’s worth noting that if you don’t want a sit down meal, 60 to 70 people can comfortably stand in the bar). There’s also a smart private room for 15 covers. Just as there’s no shortage of wine choices, neither are your menu options limited. Parties of up to 80 can eat a la carte or reduced a la carte. Any larger and your options are set, canapés or buffet (all with vegetarian choices). Air-conditioned. No smoking area. Closes at midnight.
