It is common for us to develop a taste for new cuisine regardless of whether or not it's 'good' or 'authentic' simply because our palates don't know any better. Whatever your experience of Thai food, do your tastebuds a favour, and eat at Absolute Thai where flavour, quality, care, presentation and service rarely come better than this in central London. A modern oasis-like restaurant, it is beautifully lit by spotlights, a mirrored wall, and a strip of underlit pebbles running along the back of the banquette seating. By far the bestselling dish is a house special of half (most places offer a meagre quarter) a roast duck surrounded by a gorgeous tamarind sauce next to a nest of crispy seaweed. You'll be back.

Thoughtfully designed, Absolutely Thai splits into two dining areas divided by a sleek silver bar. The entrance section is all kuntuk, low square tables surrounded by cushions, which can be arranged to sit anything from four to 20 guests. The main dining area at the back fits around 40, and can be re-arranged to create a small dancefloor. Exclusive hire means you can bring your own entertainment, even if that means simply playing your own CDs. Both set and canapés menus are offered, and the chefs will do their level best to meet special requests. The drinks menu is genuinely varied, listing all sorts from juices and sherry to cocktails and Thai beer. Children are welcome.
