Stylish, modern, understated, all these aptly describe the neatly titled The Lane in London's E1. Serving good Modern European food in fantastically airy surroundings, this relaxing bar and restaurant has a knack of charming everyone else who walks through its glass doors. The menu is down-to-earth in content as well as price, battered haddock with fat chips, but with the odd touch of grandeur as in the roast chicken with creamed girolles and a quail scotch egg. Lunch costs just £10 for two courses. Just as reasonably priced is the wine list. The bar is of the funky lounge variety, complete with DJs, a separate menu, and its very own atmosphere. And if that's not enough, there's also an outside eating area.

Exclusive hire would suit groups of approximately a hundred, or 140 if you're planning a reception style event. The largest group that can sit down for a meal with other diners is 60. Key facilities are available for corporate events, including a hotel above the restaurant if your guests don't want to travel far. The best group seat is the banquette at the back of the restaurant. The Lane Bar offers entertainment of all kinds and is available for private hire and group bookings, and also arranges special events for big occasions such as New Year's Eve. A private room is available on request. Whatever your needs, The Lane is sure to meet them.
