Amber is the place where classic good times can be found again and again. When you enter the warm and welcoming bar and restaurant, decorated in teak and cherry with copper and mosaic trims you have the choice of a fabulous meal in the one of the curving wooden booths upstairs, or an evening of drink, dance and tapas in the downstairs bar area. We say go for both. The menu is something different. The heart of the kitchen can clearly be found in Iberia, South America and far beyond these shores. It all comes together in exciting dishes the chef describes as 'cocino criollo' or creole cooking, a tasty melange influenced by Spanish, African and native cuisines. Try dishes like grilled spicy sausage with mango mayonnaise, meat or vegetable bbq skewers, beef or bean tortilla with tomato sauce and cheese, and baked lemon custard with sour cream. And the dishes are all beautifully complemented by the wine list featuring unusual bottles from Spain and Portugal as well as Chile and beyond. There are very good veggie choices, and DJs from Wednesday night.

Right in the heart of Soho, Amber Bar brings sunshine and warmth to any celebration and the staff are just as authentically Latino as the food. Amber is divided nicely into areas than can be made exclusive, like the skylight upstairs bar, seating up to 35, or the much more accommodating downstairs bar and dance floor, seating up to 80. In the main restaurant, a group will be well looked-after and small groups can feel both separate and part of the buzzing main dining room in one of the peephole-designed booths. Order a zillion tapas to share, dishes like spicy fishcakes with chilli sauce, or chickpea and white bean dip with corn chips. Main courses included terrific barbequed and grilled dishes and complicated salads and the wine list is terrific. Dance floor with DJ is downstairs, so Amber would suit a real bash.
