Admittedly, the stairway to heaven traditionally faces upwards, but on this occasion we invite you to descend to Nirvana, a modern Indian glass-fronted basement restaurant on that al fresco catwalk, the King's Road (Vivienne Westwood's shop is next door). As smart as the five-home owning, designer-label-clad locals who dine here, this restaurant is far removed from traditional Indians. Strictly modern in its elegant combination ofpurple paint and large mirrors, a deeply sensuous atmosphere characterizes Nirvana. Directed by Master Chef Baz (as seen on LWT's The Borough), the menu features a selection of speciality dishes such as baked roast cauliflower in a cashew nut sauce with cheese and yoghurt. The mouthwatering Degustation and Ayurvedic menus offer healthy meal options ideally suited to the figure-watchers amongst you. Aiming to provide the full package of affordable, quality food and service, manager Wahid Ali says: "We're the cheapest Indian on the King's Road, that's for sure."

Nirvana suits small groups of four who'd like to hire one of two pine-floored alcoves for themselves. A third alcove fits eight, so 16 of you would perfectly fit all three. If you're groups is closer to 30 in total(Christmas party, perhaps?), you can hire the main area instead. Meanwhile, you can hire the restaurant exclusively for a sit-down meal for 50. Choose from a set menu or from the a la carte, but if neither is exactly what you want, feel free to discuss a bespoke menu with the chefs. Being so smart, Nirvana is worth considering for corporate events such as business lunches and dinners. After all, we are talking about the King's Road here. N.B.
