A subterranean restaurant nestled beneath a DKNY store round the corner from The Ritz, this restaurant is a classy yet relaxed affair distinguished by its faultless attention to detail. The cherry wood andleather burgundy seating, the framed photography, the white linen, thestate-of-the-art lighting - they all look as if they were put in place a few hours previously they're so spotless. An all-Italian staff serve a moreish cuisine unrivalled in W1S, or so rumour will have it. Numero uno of the antipasti is the tegamino di carciofi - sautéed artichokes with chestnuts, chicken livers and truffle oil. Meanwhile, top of the primi piatti is a veal dish called cotoletta di vitello alla Milanese. Both taste even better thanthey sound. If, like us, you wind up wondering why the restaurant is calledwhat it is when there's no mosaic in sight, just pop to the lavatory. There's your answer.

At the end of the oblong restaurant is an intimate private dining area seating 24 diners, or 18 if you'd like to sit together around one table, as you may well might for a business lunch, for example. Two of the walls are dominated by solid glass and wood display cabinets lined with Mosaico's finewine collection, which changes every three months with the menu. Pick your year and pour. Exclusive hire of the restaurant would entertain a group of 100 who, if partial to high-end drinks, should be treated to at least one Mosaico cocktail each. A beautiful blend of passion fruit, gin and champagne, it elegantly embraces your mouth in a way less sophisticated drinks could never achieve.
