Dominating a large corner site at the junction of Pimlico Road and RanelaghGrove near sloaney Sloane Square, The Ebury looks permanently inviting. Just as well it has huge 60s style windows through which you can have a gaze enviously at the charmed individuals inside. And then get yourself inside, order a chocolate caipirinha at the impressive walnut bar then stretch out onchocolate brown leather banquette. Should hunger strike, a seafood bar integrated into the bar offers a selection of oysters, Cornish crab, fresh prawns and Scottish lobster. Drool. Tucked behind the bar is a cosy lounge area with walnut floors and a beautiful fireplace. From here you can admire risqué photographs by Justin Chan and Swiss artist Sylvie Fleurie's 'Flames' which cover the rear wall. A broad reaching wine list includes classic French and New World wines with a focus on Bordeaux in the dining room. The Ebury is super-smart so feel free to dress-up to look that wee bit more affluent.
The Ebury is set over two floors. The groundfloor brasserie described abovefits 56 people; while the bar takes 50 and the seafood bar groups of up to 24. From the main entrance a sleek staircase leads to an impressive 56-cover dining room where gloriously glamorous Victoriana chandeliers never fail to catch your eye from the street below. Equally attention-grabbing is anotherfluorescent-orange flame wall painting at one end. Starters include kalamata olive risotto with chargrilled baby squid or gremolata and roast quail with salad paysanne and a deep fried quail egg. Main courses range from breast of wild duck with braised savoy cabbage and parsnip risotto orroast cod with braised oxtail, salsify and girolles. Tempting desserts include bitter chocolate coulant, Derek Creagh's renowned lemon tart and poached pear with pannacotta. The Ebury's smart versatility makes it worthconsidering for all sorts of events from engagement parties to hen nights toChristmas dinners.
