Set in the ground of the old Granada building in west Soho, Circus's threeglass walls flood the minimalist David Chipperfield-designed restaurant withlight. The overall effect is impressive enough to attract a suitably smart media and finance crowd eager to be seen to spend their cash. And what a place to be seen in. The gorgeously glossy basement lounge bar is a dark, sensuous haven for a sneaky morning espresso with the papers or alet-your-hair-down dry martini after work. Back upstairs, Richard Lee's cooking is as stylishly simple as the decor - great ingredients meet classic techniques and inventive touches. For starters try grilled mackerel with Thai salad, or the melt-in-your-mouth carpaccio. Favourite mains include the critically-acclaimed pan-fried smoked haddock risotto with soft-poached egg.If you like dancing, really dancin', then go Thursday, Friday or Saturday night when DJs up the trendy tempo.

If Circus sounds like your kind of party venue (Gucci loved it), then read on. Exclusive hire would suit parties of 135 if you plan to be seated or 250 for a canapé party. Should you be thinking of something smaller, you could always hire the beautiful bar for 50 to 200 colleagues, friends and friends of friends... But if that's still too much, how about the intimate privatedining room for groups of ten to 20? Circus's inherent smartness means it'sa nice choice for business lunches, dinners and conferences, which is why an ISDN line, PA system and projection screen are available. Menus can be tailored and the room styled to suit; perfectly square with no columns, the restaurant is especially flexible. The house champagne, Bruno Paillard, is one of the youngest and smallest Champagne houses.
