Shiny metal, leather banquettes, illuminated blue wall screens, cracking cocktails; Equal puts the mmm into modern. The Forest Hill city, arts and media crowd have taken to this lounge bar and restaurant like Damien Hirst to a carcass. And it's not just the drinks and the décor that are more Soho than SE23. The intimate restaurant provides booth-style European dining to die for. Starters include steamed mussels with white wine and lemongrass, while mains are made of such fine foodstuffs as halloumi ravioli with asparagus, pine nuts and mixed leaves. The menu changes every month, but the live DJ music remains rare groove and soulful. In South East London, there's really nothing quite like Equal.
