About
Time was when Greek restaurants provided cheap and cheerful 'filling' food - ideal for late night dining after doing something else, but not really worth devoting a whole evening to. However, fuelled by the increasing number of people who have sampled real Greek cuisine on holiday and the 'nouvelle vague' of Greek Chefs in London, 'eating Greek' is turning into a totally different experience. Cafe Corfu is fortunate to have head chef Eudoxios Bekris, who has worked in Michelin starred restaurants across Europe and brings the right lightness of touch to the menu. Cafe Corfu goes a long way towards proving that Greece has one of the forgotten cuisines of Europe, and is well worth a visit to NW1. Not only that, but it is extremely good value, especially given the quality of the cooking, at around £15 to £25 a head for a two course meal. Starters - apart of course, from mezze - include inspiring dishes such as calamari stuffed with feta, grilled peppers and olives, aubergine and feta tart, chicken stuffed filo 'cigars' or mussels. Main courses are equally interesting - roasted lamb shank, pilaf with wild mushrooms, aubergine, chickpea rice and sun dried tomatoes or grilled sea bream and spinach. Dancing and entertainment on weekends helps create a lively atmosphere. A Greek DJ and belly dancers on Fridays and Saturdays boogie to Greek, Arabic, Top 40, Club and Funk mixes. The fun starts at 9.30pm... On Sunday nights a live Greek band perfoms Rembetiko style bouzouki music starting at 8pm.
We all know that no-one knows how to party like the Greeks , all that plate throwing! So where better venue than this 'nouvelle vague' Greek restaurant to throw a bash? You could take over the whole main restaurant for 130 people seated or 150 standing, or the private back area of the restaurant for between 50 and 70. Catering could either be a la carte, buffet or canapes, depending on your requirements - and you'll be in good company - recent parties held at Café Corfu include events for Easyjet, Dinner Dates and George Michael. Having a Birthday? Substitute a celebration cake instead of individual desserts at no extra charge. They make the cakes to order and require at least 48 hours notice.
A deposit of £5 per person is required for all bookings over 10. If the booking is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice the deposit is retained.
