Opium
About
If you want to eat beautiful food in a beautiful setting, get yourself down to Opium Bar & Restaurant for a beautiful evening. The restaurant was designed by Paris-based Miguel Cancio Martines in Indochine style with ornate wooden screens, bespoke French furniture, a winter garden, fountain, and golden Shiva. The food has all the fresh, healthy flavours of Vietnamese cuisine filtered through the fineness of French technique, and features amazing flavours like cari do bien, a glazed seafood and coconut curry with jasmine rice, or quay tom hum, baked whole lobster with Vietnamese style dressing and ginger. The bar is reminiscent of an opium den, and the fabulous drinks might have a similar effect. DJ's bring you world music of a very high order, and chanteuses appear from time to time to sing their hearts out for you. It attracts a stylish crowd of upmarket trendsetters.
As its name suggests, there's an addictive quality to this oriental-themed nightclub and bar beneath Soho's Dean Street. A dark opulent den, Opium's sumptuous sophistication is bound in its intricate décor of carvings, sepia photographs, mosaic walls, puppets, plush ottomans, candles and cushions. As the evening goes on, the world music gets louder until eventually the restaurant along with the bar becomes a thronging night club. To really make the most of an evening here, you could hire the central hand-carved pagoda accomodating up to 100 people. A late night licence means there's no need to hurry the excellent, if expensive, drinks. Just sit back and soak up the scenery. Alternatively, exclusive hire is available for 250 people, but Monday to Friday only as on Saturdays the place is too full of models, trendsetters and the rest of the stylish set. One visit is never enough.
