Enjoying a Soho corner setting and looking equally as inviting as Café Boheme opposite, Maison Touaregue is a Moroccan and Lebanese restaurant. Its owners aim to transport you to the southern Sahara where the Taureg people originate. Put another way, they're inviting you to try North African dishessuch as cous-cous (the house specialty) and charcoal grills from a menu created and prepared by a Lebanese and a Moroccan chef. But the journey doesn't stop there. The carefully thought-out décor of solid dark wood furniture, traditional artifacts, candles and cushions certainly feels moreSahara than Soho. And that's the point. Downstairs hides an even cosier basement bar dominated by two long upholstered cushion-lined banquettes. A ballet dancer entertains the mix of regulars and tourists every Friday and Saturday night. If you find yourself getting too comfortable, chill. Maison Touaregue is open until 3am.

Groups of 70 can hire of the restaurant exclusively, while the bar downstairs takes parties of up to 60 standing. On either floor you and your group will be served by polite black-clad staff. If you believe in doing as the Romans when in Rome, then offer your guests some arak, a strong Lebaneseaperitif not unlike Pernod. Business lunchers might be interested in a £12.50 two-course menu designed specifically for them, with a glass of house wine thrown in (not literally, of course).
