The Feathers Hotel has long been one of the places to go for a romantic weekend and those lucky enough to live nearby go there to celebrate special events. The building, which was originally three 18th century houses knocked together is very picturesque and has recently been completely refurbished inside. Expect to be greeted by the resident parrot who presides over the reception area. Lunchtimes are smart but casual, and in the summer there is room for around 3 diners outside as well as in the restaurant. Dinner tends to be more formal, with black tie the norm. A very extensive wine list is coupled with excellent modern European cuisine, and indeed the chef is aiming to get a second Michelin Star. This is very much an 'occasion' restaurant and well worth travelling some distance to visit. However, if you really want to do justice to the food, drink and general ambience, book yourself in for an overnight stay and walk off all those calories in next door Blenheim Palace grounds the next day.What's cooking?Roast Hand Dived Scallops, set on a puree of haricot blanc, grilled chorizo sausage, cauliflower beignets and fresh parmesan; Hot carmelised foie gras, green split peas, smoked Italian bacon, salsify Madeira sauce and white truffle oil; risotto of royal Dourade seasoned with fresh crab meat, morels, pak choi, rosemary and aubergines; Pave of Halibut sauteed in olive oil with spinach, fresh asparagus,pesto and classic nicoise garnish, creamed rice pudding with poached figs, praline, bitter chocolate sorbet and sesame seed tuile; iced cherry parfait dried applies and pistachio tuile with a puree of griottines and vanilla sauce.
